Will work for Food...

Picture
Anyone who has young children know how hard it can be to get them dressed and ready in the morning. Well,  4 year-old Elliott and Elijah are no different. Every morning I have to fuss at them about putting on underwear, shirts and pants. It's even more of a hassle to get them put on their socks and shoes. I'm constantly nagging, threatening, fussing...the works. They are not the only ones I have to deal with in the morning. I also have to get Eve, who is 2 yrs old, dressed and her hair combed. (Aiden is pretty self-sufficient at the age of 7......sometimes.) Nevertheless,  I just don't have time to deal with them each and every day.
So one morning, while of doing my usual ranting, I became extremely fed up. At 7am, we are suppose to be at the table eating breakfast so that we can leave by 7:20am. Well, at 7am I was still fussing at the boys to get dressed. So when we finally came down for breakfast, I threw the kids 1 cold Pop-Tart. Elliott and Elijah stared at the Pop-Tart in disbelief. They looked at each other, and then back at me. (These are boys who are used to having hot waffles, sausage, eggs, pancakes, fried bologna...basically a nice, hearty and hot breakfast each morning. Not a cold Pop-Tart.) So Elijah decided to speak first.

Elijah: Mom, where the hot waffles?
Elliott: Yea, can I have some sausage?
Me: NO!!!! I don't have time to get y'all dressed AND fix a hot meal!! So eat your cold food! We will leave in 10 minutes.

The next morning, I set the kids clothes out in the den as usual and I went downstairs to finish getting myself ready for work. At about 6:25am, I stopped to talk to my Hubby. About 5 minutes later I tell Anthony that I'm going to get the kids dressed. (I wake the kids at 6:30am and fight with them about getting out of bed.)

Anthony: Huh? The twins are already dressed.
Me: Did you dress them?
Anthony: No. I thought you did.
Me: (I yell for Elliott and Elijah to come downstairs.) Boys, did you get yourself dressed this morning? All by yourself?
Twins: Yes Mommy!!!
Me: I can't believe this!!!! I'm sooo proud of you boys.
Twins: (Smiling........enjoying the praise.......)

Then they speak:
Elijah: Since we dressed ourselves, can we have hot waffles for breakfast?
Elliott: And hot sausage and syrup?

Me:........SURE!!!!

So now I know...They will work for food......
