Busted-out in Kroger...by Aiden

Picture
We all know that kids can say the "darnest things". But sometimes, things get said at the wrong time and wrong place. Well, this "darnest thing" was said my my oldest and most intelligent child. The kids and I were at Kroger for our weekly grocery shopping and we  moved out cart to the checkout line. There I said hello to the cashier, the bagger and the manager who is standing nearby. This is the most amount of people we have seen at Kroger, but I guess Aiden wanted to wait until he had an audience. And out of nowhere, Aiden speaks loudly!!!
Aiden: MOM, I KNOW YOU'RE REALLY EXCITED THAT KROGER WILL BE SELLING WINE STARTING IN JULY!
Me: (a little embarrassed) .....What Aiden?...(The cashier, bagger and manager give each a quick look)
Aiden: I saw the sign back there. It said that they are going to start selling wine here. You're happy about that, right???
Me: (I weigh my options) Option 1 - Tell Aiden to shut-up. OR Option 2 - Own up to it.
Me: Yes  Aiden, I am happy about it. Now go stand with your sister and brothers.
Aiden: (Still talking while moving) Yea, I know you are. When I read that sign, I thought to myself, "Mom is going to be really happy about that...."
Me: Okay Aiden. (On the inside I was saying, "Please shut up...shut it...quit talking...not another syllable...)
I decided to be an adult and own up to my love of wine. Besides, what was said has been said. I'm sure I will survive this embarrassing moment. But, why couldn't he say that I'm excited about the tea isle or the coffee isle? I love those drinks equally  as much as wine too...
